Founded in 1998, Dymedix is a privately held medical device company located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Company has developed a full line of reusable and disposable sensors for sleep disorder diagnostics. These products offer the Sleep Specialist a more sensitive, accurate and comfortable alternative to thermistors, thermocouples and air pressure transducers. The sensors, based on polyvinylidene fluoride film (PVDF) technology, have essentially no thermal lag and are able to respond to temperature changes within 0.005 seconds, 200 times faster than thermocouples. DYMEDIX PVDF film sensors are capable of detecting subtle airflow changes resulting in an improved diagnostic capability. PVDF generates a voltage of 2.5 volts per degree Centigrade change in temperature. The advantage of PVDF film is that the signal (and associated environmental noise) must be reduced in amplitude, in order to be compatible with existing polysomnographs. This attenuation of the noise results in an improved signal-to-noise ratio when using DYMEDIX PVDF sensors. Additionally, DYMEDIX has developed and patented noise-cancellation circuitry which further reduces the environmental noise often associated with other hospital equipment such as MRI, cautery generators, r.f. ablation devices, the CAT scan and the X-ray equipment.

DYMEDIX Solution

The DYMEDIX vision is to become the ultimate solution for sleep diagnostic data collection. To this end, DYMEDIX has focused on reducing the number of sensors, electrodes and wires connected to the patient; developed sensors that improve the quality and accuracy of the waveforms used in the diagnosis of sleep disorders; improved infection control for both the patient and the technologist by developing disposable sensors and electrodes; and improved patient comfort by providing small, soft and flexible sensors, which will not disrupt the patient’s sleep during testing.

DYMEDIX has developed, patented and received regulatory agency clearance, to market sensors that are compatible with all major data acquisition equipment.
